Something special this Mother’s Day

Something special this Mother’s Day

Mother’s day is all about showing thanks and gratitude to the person who brought you into this world, picked you up when you were down and made you the person you are today. Mother’s day can be traced as far back as the ancient Greeks and the Romans who threw great feasts in honour of the Goddesses Rhea and Cybele.

Many restaurants in the North East are fully booked by now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still treat your mum like a Goddess this Mothering Sunday. We believe the most precious thing you can give is your time, so rather than spending a small fortune in an overcrowded restaurant this Mother’s Day along with the other half of the British population you could reserve roles; instead of buying her the usual flowers and chocolates you could do something she won’t expect.  I bet your Mum has cooked you countless delicious meals over the years. Why not let Mum put her feet up for a change whilst you cook up a storm in the kitchen instead?

Ren Behan has some great Mother’s Day treats to get your cooking inspiration going and the BBC’s good food guide also has some fabulous ideas you could use.

If you’re not a dab hand in the kitchen, a decadent afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, shop bought cupcakes and a bottle of bubbly could be equally special. Plus, you could still show off your creativity with your very own, unique cake stands. This article shows you how these can be made at home.

You could enjoy your luncheon al fresco in the garden (weather allowing), or in the shelter of your conservatory. And remember, when dinner’s over – make sure you don’t leave your Mum with all the washing up!
