The window operates in two modes and dependant upon where the handle is positioned, pointing down it will lock the window in position, in an horizontal position it will allow the window to hinge fully into the room (ideal for cleaning the outside of the window).

With the handle pointing up it will allow the window to tilt into the room thereby providing excellent ventilation. The tilt mechanism is restricted to prevent the window from fully tilting into the room.
